When you want to remove musty smells in crawl spaces, it can be a tough job.

remove musty smell in crawl spaces When you want to remove musty smells in crawl spaces, it can be a tough job.

  • Low ceiling
  • Working on your knees or stomach
  • Stinky air
  • Plastic covering the area that smells.
  • Water on the plastic
Recently, a really nasty storm dumped a ton of rain on western Tennessee and caused many of the houses to flood. Because the ground is very rocky very many of the houses in the area have shallow crawl spaces, and as you would guess, many of these crawl spaces flooded. In fact many of the houses had water in the first floor as well and now they needed to remove musty smells in crawl spaces.
With the amount of water involved, and the fact that many of the crawl spaces are dirt floored with no drain or sump pumps, the crawl spaces stayed wet for a long time.  Then time and the environment created mold and musty smells.
  • Wet +
  • dark +
  • warm =
  • growing mold and musty smells. And a good chance of
  • bad health from breathing the smell.
In an effort to put these houses back into production, and remove musty smells in crawl spaces, all sorts of short cuts and expense were taken.
  • Bleach was used to kill mold
  • vinegar to kill mold
  • borax to kill mold
  • Professionals with air scrubbers, hazardous chemicals, wearing respirators covering their nose and eyes  and an expensive price tag.
All you really need are 2 items and 1 product:
AQM by OdorXit is a packet that hangs in the area and once moisture in the air comes in contact with the packet, it creates chlorine dioxide (CLO2) gas.  Chlorine dioxide will oxidize all the mold in the air and totally remove musty smells in crawl spaces, basements anywhere there is mold or mildew.  The only addition you need to remove musty smells from crawl spaces and even basements is to get a small fan to circulate the air and a respirator for you to wear while you work in the area.  The respirator keeps you safe from mold and spores.  The AQM is never harmful to you when used as directed.
The fan circulates the CLO2 gas in the air.  It will come in contact with the mold spores and kill and remove the musty smells in crawl spaces, from the air and create better indoor air quality in the event of water in the crawl space.  This process is gentle enough to remove musty smells in crawl spaces and BOOKS too!
Hi Marty,
I just wanted to let you know that my moldy basement is not longer moldy. I didn’t believe you when you told me that just 1 25 gram (1 ounce) packet of AQM would remove the mold from my basement that had been that way for 7 years. But in just 5 days the mold odor was gone and the hacking and coughing while in the basement is gone too. It’s 2 months now and the odor etc have not returned! Thanks so much.

The recent storms that have ravaged multiple parts of the US have caused unprecedented damage. If you or your loved ones were affected by any of these storms, our thoughts and best wishes go out to you. Because these storms were so large in scale, people have experienced everything from moderate to complete damage.

Since getting rid of bad odors is our area of expertise, we want to help anyone who lost power for an extended period of time during one of these storms but didn't face complete damage to their home and belongings. Even if you're dealing with a refrigerator that smells incredibly bad due to it being fully defrosted and having items like frozen food decompose for days or even weeks, we want to go over how you can fully restore your appliance to its former condition.

5 Steps to Saving Your Refrigerator After Losing Electricity

The first step is to remove all of the spoiled food. This can be a truly nasty and smelly experience, which is why you'll want to wear a protective mask and gloves as you do it. Once your refrigerator is clean, take it outside and spray it out with a garden hose. If you have a truck or access to one, consider taking your appliance to a car wash and use the high-powered equipment to spray it out.

The next step is to spray one ounce of OdorXit Concentrate mixed with 30 ounces of water everywhere the refrigerator smells. That means spraying the insulation behind the doors,

under and around the door gaskets, the inside, behind the drawers and every little opening where the defrosted food might have dripped. Once the OdorXit Concentrate solution comes in contact with the rotten food smells, it will remove them from your refrigerator completely and safely.

The second to last step is to let the refrigerator dry outside then bring it back in the house. Don't panic if it still smells a little. It just means there is still at least one spot that hasn't been treated yet. You'll be able to knock it out by continuing to sniff and spraying wherever you detect even a slight odor.

The final step is to remember to be a good neighbor! Spray a few shots of the OdorXit Concentrate solution in the drain at the car wash or wherever you ended up treating your appliance. Anyone who comes by after you will be very glad you did.

By following the process above, it's possible to save even the worst smelling refrigerator, which in turns means saving hundreds of dollars by not needing to buy a replacement. So if you know anyone who's currently trying to restore belongings like their refrigerator, feel free to share this post with them by email or on Facebook.

While spring cleaning is something that most homeowners think about and many take part in, it’s easier for people like college students who are living in dorms to overlook. But just because spring cleaning may not be as common throughout college dorms doesn’t mean you should skip it.
