The biggest reason that odor control and odor elimination seems to be complicated is that there are several classes of odors and there is no single odor eliminator that is affective on all of the classes. The most prevalent class is based on sulfur or hydrogen sulfide. The source of these odors is almost always organic.
The second reason odor control and elimination is (unnecessarily) complicated is because most people don’t read the instructions explaining how to use the product they have just purchase which often but not always explains what odors the product works on.
The third reason that odors are hard to remove, is that often the source of the odor continues to recontaminate the same area over and over again.
Then what can be done to eliminate odors?  If the problem is an incontinent person, removing the person as you could a misbehaving cat is normally not an option.  However, retraining the cat is probably easier to do. The incontinent person is often unaware of the leakage or just too ill to get up to use the toilet.
That’s why there are different odor control products. Most odor control products are just perfume to cover up the odor with a more pleasant smell and make lots of cash flow for the manufacture. This is pretty effective for the short term but they need to be reapplied quite often or on a continuous basis to continue to work as designeed.
The next most common odor control products use enzymes and/or bacteria to “digest” the source of the odor. What they are really doing (when they work) is accelerate the conversion of the odors source into the odor. As long as there is no detergent residue in the area being treated these products often work but they can take up to several days to complete the job and must be kept wet during that time. The resulting smell can be quite bad.
There are several commercially available products that use more active enzymes, bacteria and volatile solvent that are not available to the over the counter market because they require special handling or they are proprietary products available only to people and companies that have spent thousands of dollars on franchise licenses.
Then there are OdorXit Products.
OdorXit Magic is a gas absorber. It chemically entraps a wide range of malodors from the air as they pass by the residue of the spray. This process works until the Magic residue becomes saturated with the malodors gas and has to be reapplied to continue the process. Unlike the cover ups mentioned above OdorXit Magic does not have a cover fragrance.
OdorXit Concentrate uses a combination of odor elimination strategies including
  • Counteraction. It pairs with many odors to neutralize the odor.
  • Absorption. Physically penetrates many odor causing substances and converts them into other byproducts that have no odor.
  • Bonding. Physically binds to many odor causing substances changing them for ever into non odor producing byproducts.
These Strategies work by completely altering the source of odors produced by urine, feces, vomit, skunk, and most other hydrogen sulfide and ammonia based odors.
OdorXit ClO2 uses an oxidation process to eliminate odors caused by odor sources that will oxidize.  They include but are not limited to smoke odors, mold, mold spores, bacteria, viruses, solvent odors and many other hard to eliminate odors.
The remaining issue that makes odors hard to remove is applying these products properly as determined by the source material of the odor and the material that has been contaminated. Application techniques can very wildly predicated on the material, how long the material has been contaminated, and what other failed products have been used to control the odor.
Unlike enzyme and bacteria products, OdorXit thrives in a detergent environment. In some applications, detergent actually improves OdorXit Concentrate’s performance.  In any case, removing as much of the odor causing material prior to treatment can substantially reduce the amount of OdorXit Products required and the time it takes to finish the odor elimination job.

The recent storms that have ravaged multiple parts of the US have caused unprecedented damage. If you or your loved ones were affected by any of these storms, our thoughts and best wishes go out to you. Because these storms were so large in scale, people have experienced everything from moderate to complete damage.

Since getting rid of bad odors is our area of expertise, we want to help anyone who lost power for an extended period of time during one of these storms but didn't face complete damage to their home and belongings. Even if you're dealing with a refrigerator that smells incredibly bad due to it being fully defrosted and having items like frozen food decompose for days or even weeks, we want to go over how you can fully restore your appliance to its former condition.

5 Steps to Saving Your Refrigerator After Losing Electricity

The first step is to remove all of the spoiled food. This can be a truly nasty and smelly experience, which is why you'll want to wear a protective mask and gloves as you do it. Once your refrigerator is clean, take it outside and spray it out with a garden hose. If you have a truck or access to one, consider taking your appliance to a car wash and use the high-powered equipment to spray it out.

The next step is to spray one ounce of OdorXit Concentrate mixed with 30 ounces of water everywhere the refrigerator smells. That means spraying the insulation behind the doors,

under and around the door gaskets, the inside, behind the drawers and every little opening where the defrosted food might have dripped. Once the OdorXit Concentrate solution comes in contact with the rotten food smells, it will remove them from your refrigerator completely and safely.

The second to last step is to let the refrigerator dry outside then bring it back in the house. Don't panic if it still smells a little. It just means there is still at least one spot that hasn't been treated yet. You'll be able to knock it out by continuing to sniff and spraying wherever you detect even a slight odor.

The final step is to remember to be a good neighbor! Spray a few shots of the OdorXit Concentrate solution in the drain at the car wash or wherever you ended up treating your appliance. Anyone who comes by after you will be very glad you did.

By following the process above, it's possible to save even the worst smelling refrigerator, which in turns means saving hundreds of dollars by not needing to buy a replacement. So if you know anyone who's currently trying to restore belongings like their refrigerator, feel free to share this post with them by email or on Facebook.

While spring cleaning is something that most homeowners think about and many take part in, it’s easier for people like college students who are living in dorms to overlook. But just because spring cleaning may not be as common throughout college dorms doesn’t mean you should skip it.
