There are situations where heavy urine contamination on concrete won’t allow normal application methods of applying OdorXit Concentrate and Magic by OdorXit enough to eliminate all the odors.  This does not  mean that these products will not work for on these extreme cases. It simply means that normal application processes are not enough to totall remove all the odors.
An example of this kind of situation might be a confined indoor or outdoor concrete floor play area for dogs. These doggie day care center or kennels,  where dogs can be kept safe while the owner(s) work or vacation or are otherwise unable for a time are not available to care for their dog (or cat), are  exposed to large quantities of urine and feces on an ongoing basis.

Commonly Used Odor Elimination Approaches

Most facilities of this type use chlorine bleach and detergent to reduce the odor and kill the bacteria that accumulates it these facilities. Some facilities even use power washers to help with the cleanup efforts.
Our experience with these methods have been shown to work poorly on new facilities and much less well on older facilities. The first issue is that using a power washer (even and electric 1000 PSI version) only drive the urine odor producing urea salt deeper into the surface of the concrete rather than washing it away.
Bleach or bleach mixed with detergent (even TSP) does nothing at all to neutralize the urine residue and very little to kill or neutralize the bacteria and viruses that can be so dangerous to dogs and care givers.  Further, as the water in the raw urine evaporates, the uric acid breaks down into urea salt an ammonia gas.  This ammonia gas when mixed with chlorine bleach, produces a very poisonous and irritating chlorine gas (Cl2) which can cause serious and painful eye, throat, and lung irritation and burns which can and often does indicate  a visit to the emergency room for treatment. These serious symptoms are almost never acted upon by employees or management unless they are very seviour and will probably require hospitalization.

So Much For What Doesn’t Work

Now that I have address the most popular ways of cleaning and deodorizing concrete flooring with urine contamination, I would like to offer an alternative that actually removes heavy urine contamination and addresses continuing urine contamination odor safely and effectively.
The first thing that I need to make very clear is that this is a method for elimination and control of an on going re-contamination situation like you would find in a dog day care center, kennel, cattery or pet rescue facility among other similar situations.
The second thing that you need to realize is that this kind of problem does not occur overnight, and the long term solution is an on going process, not a quick fix.
Most of the time the urine odor simply builds up slowly over months or years depending on the specific cleaning procedures and chemical products used. Therefor, expecting that any process or chemical is going to make the problem simply disappear overnight is an unrealistic expectation. A multiphase approach is necessary to:
  1. The first phase is to reduce the level of odor currently being produced by reducing the level of urea salt that is currently in the floor. (This is special cleaning procedures directed at reducing the deep contamination of the floor which is not part of the normal day to day maintenance procedure).
  2. Reduce the amount of urine that is left to soak into the floor by promptly removing the raw urine. (Provide ample opportunity and training for guest pets to us outdoor or isolated toilet facilities before entering the play facility).
  3. Implement practices and procedures that maximize guest pet access to plays areas while minimizing the time raw urine is left on the floor.
  4. Implement practices and procedures to initiate raw urine removal from play areas as soon as the area is unoccupied.  (The longer the raw urine gets to dry the harder it is to effectively and inexpensively remove).
Two of the really important parts of any on going procedure are timing and weather.
  1. Timing is important because delaying the removal of raw urine until the urine has soaked into the concrete and dried makes removing urine using normal removal procedures ineffective.
  2. Weather conditions like hot and dry weather make the urine dry faster giving it lest time to penetrate deep into the concrete. Cool and humid weather gives the urine much more time to penetrate the concrete.  Further, anytime the relative humidity is below 50% urine residue will not spontaneously produce odor without additional water or urine.

The recent storms that have ravaged multiple parts of the US have caused unprecedented damage. If you or your loved ones were affected by any of these storms, our thoughts and best wishes go out to you. Because these storms were so large in scale, people have experienced everything from moderate to complete damage.

Since getting rid of bad odors is our area of expertise, we want to help anyone who lost power for an extended period of time during one of these storms but didn't face complete damage to their home and belongings. Even if you're dealing with a refrigerator that smells incredibly bad due to it being fully defrosted and having items like frozen food decompose for days or even weeks, we want to go over how you can fully restore your appliance to its former condition.

5 Steps to Saving Your Refrigerator After Losing Electricity

The first step is to remove all of the spoiled food. This can be a truly nasty and smelly experience, which is why you'll want to wear a protective mask and gloves as you do it. Once your refrigerator is clean, take it outside and spray it out with a garden hose. If you have a truck or access to one, consider taking your appliance to a car wash and use the high-powered equipment to spray it out.

The next step is to spray one ounce of OdorXit Concentrate mixed with 30 ounces of water everywhere the refrigerator smells. That means spraying the insulation behind the doors,

under and around the door gaskets, the inside, behind the drawers and every little opening where the defrosted food might have dripped. Once the OdorXit Concentrate solution comes in contact with the rotten food smells, it will remove them from your refrigerator completely and safely.

The second to last step is to let the refrigerator dry outside then bring it back in the house. Don't panic if it still smells a little. It just means there is still at least one spot that hasn't been treated yet. You'll be able to knock it out by continuing to sniff and spraying wherever you detect even a slight odor.

The final step is to remember to be a good neighbor! Spray a few shots of the OdorXit Concentrate solution in the drain at the car wash or wherever you ended up treating your appliance. Anyone who comes by after you will be very glad you did.

By following the process above, it's possible to save even the worst smelling refrigerator, which in turns means saving hundreds of dollars by not needing to buy a replacement. So if you know anyone who's currently trying to restore belongings like their refrigerator, feel free to share this post with them by email or on Facebook.

While spring cleaning is something that most homeowners think about and many take part in, it’s easier for people like college students who are living in dorms to overlook. But just because spring cleaning may not be as common throughout college dorms doesn’t mean you should skip it.
