Secret #1

Just washing the walls and removing most of the tar and nicotine is not how to remove smoke odor.

Secret #2

  • Painting walls
  • Sealing the walls
  • Washing the walls,
  • Ozone machine
These are just a few other things people try and think that is how to remove smoke odor.  And they don’t work either.  It’s obvious, they don’t know how to remove smoke odor from the house or car because they are trying crazy things in hopes that they will remove the smell.

Secret #3 (And it is OK to tell your friends!)

All you really need is
  • TSP,
  • 4″ fan or two and
  • AQM by OdorXit. – Air Quality Manager
  • Elbow grease
Here are the steps on how to remove smoke odor from a house.  And remember, just like a great coat of paint, it is all in the prep work!
  • Washing the walls with TSP is the first step in how to remove smoke odor.  You have to get off as much of the tar and nicotine as possible.  You can do that with TSP – Tri Sodium Phosphates .  The real stuff, not the green friendly liquid kind.

If it is to be TSP,
It must have Phosphates

  • Pour a cup of real TSP into a gallon of hot water
  • Let the TSP dissolve, stir
  • Then wash the walls.
The easiest way is to have three buckets.
  • An empty bucket
  • A bucket with clean cool water
  • A bucket with hot TSP and water
  1. close the mop and put it in the TSP bucket
  2. open the mop in the TSP water and quickly remove the mop from the water.
  3. Wipe the TSP on the wall in approximate 4’x4′ sections
  4. squeeze the dirty water in to the waste bucket-empty bucket -twice
  5. Put the mop into the clean water then rinse off that part of the wall with the clean water
  6. Dry the wall off with the damp mop, and repeat.
Now comes the easy part.  The prep work is always the toughest!  The final step in how to remove smoke odor from a house.
  • Remove any cardboard, cardboard boxes, etc.  They will suck up the AQM gas in the air and the AQM will not work as intended.
  • Calculate the surface area of the room/s you need to remove the smoke smell.  anything less than 1,000 square feet of surface area you will need at least a 10 gram AQMfor approximately $25.  1,000 square feet and an empty room – no furniture, etc. 1-10gram packet will be sufficient.  With furniture, you’ll need more.
  1. If you have 800 square feet on a first floor level and another 800 sq feet on a 2nd level, you’ll need two 10 gram packet, one for each level to remove cigarette smoke from house.
  2. If you have a larger 1,500 square feet with additional surface area, you’ll need a 25gram packet ($50) for the main area (LR, DR, KIT) and a 10gram packet for the bedroom/s.
  • Place the AQM – Air Quality Mangerpacket by OdorXitin a corner of the biggest room first.  Open the silver  packet.  Remove the white pouch and place it back into the clear, self adhesive protector.
  • Attach the clear, self adhesive protector pack on the back of a 4″ diameter small fan .  4′ in diameter is big enough.  You’ll just want it to move around the gas the AQMpacket creates.  The gas must come in contact with all the smoke residue left on the walls – even after washing.  This is the final step on how to remove smoke odor from house.
  • A ceiling fan will do as well.  Place it on low and in the ‘winter’ position – pulling the air UP from the floor.
  • You’ll also need 40% + relative humidity for the packet to make the gas in the room.  You can find that by Googling relative humidity and your city.  If you are lower than 40%RH, you need to add maybe 5 drops of water to the packet.  (Yes, that little. Only 5 drops of water.)  That will allow the packet to start to make the chlorine dioxide gas it creates to remove cigarette smoke smell from house.  It will also kill the smell of mold, mildew, germs, bacteria, curry cooking smells, even skunk and oxidize those odors so they won’t come back.

The recent storms that have ravaged multiple parts of the US have caused unprecedented damage. If you or your loved ones were affected by any of these storms, our thoughts and best wishes go out to you. Because these storms were so large in scale, people have experienced everything from moderate to complete damage.

Since getting rid of bad odors is our area of expertise, we want to help anyone who lost power for an extended period of time during one of these storms but didn't face complete damage to their home and belongings. Even if you're dealing with a refrigerator that smells incredibly bad due to it being fully defrosted and having items like frozen food decompose for days or even weeks, we want to go over how you can fully restore your appliance to its former condition.

5 Steps to Saving Your Refrigerator After Losing Electricity

The first step is to remove all of the spoiled food. This can be a truly nasty and smelly experience, which is why you'll want to wear a protective mask and gloves as you do it. Once your refrigerator is clean, take it outside and spray it out with a garden hose. If you have a truck or access to one, consider taking your appliance to a car wash and use the high-powered equipment to spray it out.

The next step is to spray one ounce of OdorXit Concentrate mixed with 30 ounces of water everywhere the refrigerator smells. That means spraying the insulation behind the doors,

under and around the door gaskets, the inside, behind the drawers and every little opening where the defrosted food might have dripped. Once the OdorXit Concentrate solution comes in contact with the rotten food smells, it will remove them from your refrigerator completely and safely.

The second to last step is to let the refrigerator dry outside then bring it back in the house. Don't panic if it still smells a little. It just means there is still at least one spot that hasn't been treated yet. You'll be able to knock it out by continuing to sniff and spraying wherever you detect even a slight odor.

The final step is to remember to be a good neighbor! Spray a few shots of the OdorXit Concentrate solution in the drain at the car wash or wherever you ended up treating your appliance. Anyone who comes by after you will be very glad you did.

By following the process above, it's possible to save even the worst smelling refrigerator, which in turns means saving hundreds of dollars by not needing to buy a replacement. So if you know anyone who's currently trying to restore belongings like their refrigerator, feel free to share this post with them by email or on Facebook.
