Has this ever happened to you..have to eliminate paint odor because you can’t breathe?   I was looking forward to changing the colors in my house for a long time.  It was finally time.  I’d had enough of the neutral antique white the seller painted all the walls so everybody who looked at his house to buy would fall in love with his house.  Ugh! too neutral.  I was so sick of seeing no color, I wanted bold and daring colors to accent everywhere.
I went to the paint store, took color samples of my drapes and furniture wanting to find a bold color to accent the room.  I found a great deep maroon color Red Pepper – to accent wine colored furniture and pictures.  I found a deep peridot green to accent more wine colors.  Then they dropped the bomb.
They told me the bolder the colors of paint, the worse the paint smelled and I would need to eliminate paint odor in my house as they were painting if I was sensitive to odors.
Oh boy.  I am sensitive to paint odor and have stayed out of freshly painted areas in the past because they didn’t eliminate paint odor for weeks after the walls were painted.  But I wasn’t changing my color combos.  I’d been planning a long time for this.  Just because I would hate the smell in my house for a few weeks, have my nose run and a few headaches was no reason to not paint my house the colors I wanted.

I’d need to figure out how to eliminate paint odor before it went on the walls.

Not sure how hard that was going to be.  But that was the answer.

After a little research.  Most products you would spray in the air after painting.  That really wasn’t what I wanted to depend on.  I wanted something at the source.  Many odor eliminators had so many chemicals, I was afraid what they might do to the texture of the paint and if it would stick after it was put on the walls.  Vinegar and baking soda surely wouldn’t work.  that would change the chemical structure and thickness of the paint.
Then I found a product made of mostly water and essential oils.  That seemed like it just might do what I wanted it to do.  It was OdorXit Concentrate.  Now I know you’re probably thinking adding another product to paint was probably a bad idea.  I thought so too.  But the guys at the paint store said they had tried it.  Some of their customers had tried it in a big Victorian home right down the street.  They said it really worked.  They just added a cap full (less than 1/2 ounce) of the OdorXit Concentrate to a gallon of paint to eliminate paint odor.
OdorXit Concentrateis mostly water so it was just perfect in latex paint.  Mixed it up in the paint and wow!  It really did cut back on the odor as they painted my beautiful Red Pepper paint on my living room walls.  It didn’t smell like they were painting at all and I could stay in my house during the whole project.  It was great.  With the help of the paint store guys, we did eliminate paint odor before it went on the walls!

Eliminate Paint Odor

“We add OdorXit Concentrateto our cans of paint when our clients say they are sensitive to the paint smell during and after it’s being applied.  OdorXit will eliminate paint odor – just a little bit, like a cap full into a gallon bucket.  It neutralizes the odor in the can and doesn’t hurt the paint.  It still goes on the roller and walls as easy as it did before you would add the OdorXit.  We recommend it to all our customers who need to eliminate paint odor as they are painting.  It works great!”  Dan and Dave Paint Department at Do it Best Hardware.*

Having great painted walls isn’t about luck. Breathing easily isn’t about luck either.   It’s about having people in your paint store who know what they are doing, have experience and just want to help you solve your problems, like eliminate paint odor when it is time to paint your house the perfect colors!

The recent storms that have ravaged multiple parts of the US have caused unprecedented damage. If you or your loved ones were affected by any of these storms, our thoughts and best wishes go out to you. Because these storms were so large in scale, people have experienced everything from moderate to complete damage.

Since getting rid of bad odors is our area of expertise, we want to help anyone who lost power for an extended period of time during one of these storms but didn't face complete damage to their home and belongings. Even if you're dealing with a refrigerator that smells incredibly bad due to it being fully defrosted and having items like frozen food decompose for days or even weeks, we want to go over how you can fully restore your appliance to its former condition.

5 Steps to Saving Your Refrigerator After Losing Electricity

The first step is to remove all of the spoiled food. This can be a truly nasty and smelly experience, which is why you'll want to wear a protective mask and gloves as you do it. Once your refrigerator is clean, take it outside and spray it out with a garden hose. If you have a truck or access to one, consider taking your appliance to a car wash and use the high-powered equipment to spray it out.

The next step is to spray one ounce of OdorXit Concentrate mixed with 30 ounces of water everywhere the refrigerator smells. That means spraying the insulation behind the doors,

under and around the door gaskets, the inside, behind the drawers and every little opening where the defrosted food might have dripped. Once the OdorXit Concentrate solution comes in contact with the rotten food smells, it will remove them from your refrigerator completely and safely.

The second to last step is to let the refrigerator dry outside then bring it back in the house. Don't panic if it still smells a little. It just means there is still at least one spot that hasn't been treated yet. You'll be able to knock it out by continuing to sniff and spraying wherever you detect even a slight odor.

The final step is to remember to be a good neighbor! Spray a few shots of the OdorXit Concentrate solution in the drain at the car wash or wherever you ended up treating your appliance. Anyone who comes by after you will be very glad you did.

By following the process above, it's possible to save even the worst smelling refrigerator, which in turns means saving hundreds of dollars by not needing to buy a replacement. So if you know anyone who's currently trying to restore belongings like their refrigerator, feel free to share this post with them by email or on Facebook.

While spring cleaning is something that most homeowners think about and many take part in, it’s easier for people like college students who are living in dorms to overlook. But just because spring cleaning may not be as common throughout college dorms doesn’t mean you should skip it.
